A5 Holborn Zip Filofax in "wine"

I needed to get a binder with bigger rings for my work Filo.  I liked the look of the Holborn, even though I couldn’t find anything online showing the inside of the A5.  I was going to order it from Pens & Leather, but their site said the rings were only 1″ and that wasn’t any bigger than my A5 Cuban.  So I emailed them, and Richard came through (again) and had it looked into and of course the zipped version has the bigger rings.  So I went ahead and ordered it.  It was 20% off, too!  Pens & Leather FTW once more.

the inside

The colour was a little different than I was expecting after looking at the photos online, but it’s a very nice, deep wine colour.  I can’t get a true representation of it in these photos.

the colour is pretty close here

Someone had commented earlier that they were curious what the inside of the Holborn looked like, so I did a quick video using my smartphone:

It came with the usual batch of inserts (which I already had, i.e. 2012 calendar, etc.) so I just popped everything out, put my Cuban A5 contents right into the new binder.  I would have liked to play with it more, but I’ve had a week full of very long days, so it will have to wait until the weekend.

ETA – I had to laugh at myself when I played back the video – I sound like Forrest Gump when I say “photo”.  Also, what’s the proper pronunciation of “Holborn”?  I said hol-BORN, but is it really ‘holburn” all together with no emphasis?

Gorgeous!!! I love the Holborn range. Enjoy your beautiful new Filofax! :)

Oooh what a treat! Thanks for the video as well – it builds a much better picture in my mind than photos alone can capture. It sure is lovely.
It still surprises me that there is so little info about these binders on the web – I think it’s down right gorgeous and it appears from the video to be as soft/bendy as the Malden.

How about using a Flex notebook in that back pocket slot to give yourself a note pad.
Also for some reason the Holborn zip isn’t showing up on the UK site any more. ‘Production issues’ have been mentioned. On the France site only one colour is now available in the zip format.
It looks excellent, but I have enough A5′s with two Malden A5′s which like yours lay flat out of the box. Pity the personal size in the Holborn Zip only comes with 23mm rings not 30 mm as the Cuban Zip does. I hope they haven’t discontinued the Holborn Zip, shame if they have.
And your pronunciation of Holborn is fine!

Oh gosh…Terri – you enabler!! I Just ordered an A5 Holborn zipped on Pensandleather. I am still saving loads on the price here in Germany. The Holborn zipped A5 in the store is (€175 = $185) and at P&L it was $140 inclusive of shipping (which for anyone interested was $25 to Germany).
I am so excited but I imagine it will take a few weeks to arrive.

I hope you love it. I’ve always had great service from Pens & Leather. What colour did you choose? I find the “feel” to it is much like my Malden, but the leather is much smoother.

  6. Hi Terri! I have loved the Holborn zip for over about 1 1/2 months now!! and I’m seriously considering buying a personal one, but I want to know whether you think the leather would be easily scratched, because I need my filos to be tough! For example, do you think it would get easily scratched if it rubbed up against something sharp?
    Thanks!
